Are Cheap Virtual Assistants Equivalent To Lousy Service?
There are a lot of complaints from companies about cheap virtual assistants and lousy service.
It is unfortunate that the complaints are being focused on the word ‘cheap’ because a lot of the very good and professional VA services that are hired by American and European companies come from India, the Philippines, and China.
Ironically, a lot of the ‘bad’ VAs is not from these Asian countries. They come from the United States. There are a lot of “Become a VA Now and Get Rich Quick” scams that lure the desperate to become something that they neither have the training nor the professional capacity to offer.
Overseas VA competitors offer good services and it is not correct that they are that cheap either; India demands $15 per hour costs, not much different from the United States. Plus, these Asian countries have a lot of flexible work hours and schedule and there are a lot of them, so they could easily cover a 24/7 service if need be. There is another plus, because there are a lot of professionals who want to work part time, they can easily cover for a VA who may have an emergency, transferred or had been requested by the company to be replaced.
When a good VA gives good service, it does not really matter whether they are offshore or are from mainland USA. Good service consists of competent performance of required tasks combined with a willingness to go and give extra service, and to look out for the best interest of the client that they are working for.
The VA industry in Asia is a fast growing business and there are a lot of competitors and that is the whole reason why the costs are considerably much, much lower than those in the US, however, there are some well established companies that would quote the same costs as in the US.
The best thing to do would be to do an internet walk so to speak and interview. Do not hire unless you have given them a test which they can pass. It might surprise your company, but there’s a lot of really good VAs from Asia who could give the US-based VAs a run for their money.
